The Clark County school district services Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, Indian
Springs, Mesquite, Laughlin, and Searchlight, as well as all rural areas in the county. The Clark County school district ranks as the 5th largest school system in the nation according to education
research service. The district operates 301 schools as of the 2004-2005 school year: 186 elementary schools (67 year round), 49 middle schools, 38 high schools, 25 alternative schools, and
3 special schools.
Bus service is provided to all students who live more than two miles from their zoned schools. All eligible students must fill out an application requesting bus
transportation. These forms are available at you child’school and the Clark County school district transportation department (702-799-8100).
Magnet programs are offered at every grade level
and allow students to pursue topics of interest to them. Students may explore everything from math and science to fine and performing arts, advance technologies, international studies, travel and tourism
to business and finance, aerospace and aviation, and more. Magnet programs are offered at three elementary schools, two middle schools and seven high school.
Registration
Two forms of proof of address are required. These may be in the form of a recent utility bill rent receipt, residence lease, or sales contract (driver’s license, telephone bill, or cable bill are not
acceptable ; if you are living with a friend or relative, you must bring a notarized statement signed by you and the owner/renter of the property where you are staying, indicating that it is your place
of residence).
Immunizations
You must have records indicating that your child has had, or at least started, this series of immunizations.
> For DPT shots (one additional required if last dose was given before fourth birthday.)
> Three polio doses (one additional required if last dose was given before fourth birthday.)
> Two MMR shots (one dose must be given on or after the first birthday. A second dose is required for initial entry into school.)
> Enrollment procedures for children new
to Las Vegas: Providing the following information will also help ensure that your child is enrolled promptly and placed in the appropriate classes:
> Previous records regarding placement in a special program or class.
> A recent report card or transfer document that shows the name and address of your child’s last school.
> your child’s most recent achievement test scores.
> Information about any disabilities or special health problems, such as seizures, asthma, heart problems, health care
procedures.
